“Mudra/The Gift”
A sculpture in two types of granite, placed outside the entrance to the Psychiatry Hospital in Västervik
The sculpture is intended to meet visitors at the entrance and create a calm, welcoming atmosphere. The two contrasting granite types enhance the feeling of balance and harmony, which ties in with the purpose of the place and the need for security. The commission assignment included proposing a larger sculpture and a base that also could function as a crash protection.
A Mudra is a symbolic hand gesture, used to convey teachings and blessings. Based on this, I have worked further and made a sculpture model of a stylized hand with a cloud resting on it, as a promise of peace of mind.
Escuintle
“Escuintle” From the Nahuatl Itzcuintli which means dog or puppy, a medium-sized sculpture in black granite for the new Börjetull neighborhood in Uppsala.
New works, back in India
In 2024, I spent two periods in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, working on two parallel assignments, one for Hudiksvall Hospital and the other for the new psychiatric hospital in Västervik. The installations will be completed during the summer.
Curious
Lirón
“Lirón” a public art commision in the courtyard of Äventyrets preschool
The sculpture at Äventyret Preschool is composed of two sections: a dormouse resting in a cloud-like hand made of granite, with light gray for the hand and reddish brown for the mouse. The preschool aims to create an environment with a nature-inspired theme. In the inner courtyard, there is a local population of dormice, a rare and protected species that is also featured in Alice in Wonderland. The dormice are known for their long winter hibernation and can serve as a basis for discussions about nature conservation.
